6 WAYS TO MAKE MONEY BLOGGING

how to make money blogging

6 Ways to Make Money Blogging

If you don’t know already, blogging is a legitimate way to make money online. And you will be learning about the 6 things you can do to make money blogging. These things are very "doable" and they are what you should get involved in if you are really considering making money from blogging. I like blogging and I know many bloggers in Nigeria who feel the same. If you feel the same way and you want to make more money from what you like, let’s talk about making money blogging and what it really means.

Blogging is something that requires patience, consistency, and discipline. It may mean publishing great contents every day for over a year before you really start to make any money from it. I know that there are exceptions to this. However, most Nigerians I have come across seems to spend one, two or more years building their blogs, brand, and authority, before making any serious amount of money from the blog.

1. Affiliates

There are many affiliate networks you can join as a Nigerian which allows you to promote other people’s products and services while you get paid commission for every sale you generate. You simply put a link (affiliate link) or a banner (with your affiliate link) strategically on your blog and then get your readers to click through and buy the product/service. To make the most of this, it is best you select products that are related to blog’s contents. Examples of affiliate networks/programs you can join are the 160+ Affiliate Programs that Pay Recurring Commissions, others are jumia, konga and NiaraBET.

2. Advertising

This is definitely the oldest way of making money with a blog. Some bloggers are starting to say that Blog Ads is not the best way to make money blogging. However, there are lots of brands still looking for blogs to advertise on. You can sell banner or text advertising space directly on your blog or you can sign up with a program like Google AdSense(content is key) or MediaNet. Either way, you won’t make a whole lot of money from the ads if you are not getting enough quantity and quality traffic to your blog every day, so build more on your daily or weekly views then look for company that will like to buy an ads space in your blog.

3. Paid Membership

One more advanced way to make money blogging is to setup membership area for your blog. Many people have created a paid membership area on their blog. This is typically for exclusive or premium content that your premium members can only access the member’s area. You will need to create the membership area and then add things that can’t easily be accessed from the web for your premium members. There are both free and paid membership plugins or script you can get and then set up a membership area for your blog. As a Nigerian, it safe to create membership area where people can pay for with online payment tools for Nigerians such as InterSwitch.

4. Create your own Products

You can create your own products (e.g. ebooks, audios, videos, software etc) and then use your blog as a promotion tool to get people to buy your product. Lots of information marketers in Nigeria do this already. You too can as long as you create legitimate products that offer a whole lot of value to your buyers. You would be able to buyers if your product is what your blog readers/visitors want. This is why you need to make sure your product is what people will buy – it must be valuable and useful to them, atleast you can't expect me to use my money to buy something that's not worth it.

5. Sponsored Posts

Sponsored posts are basically posts you write about a brand, product or service which you get paid for to publish on your own blog. An individual or a company will pay you to publish an article about them or their product/service on your blog. You will write these in a form of review and get your readers to read and take action by making use of the product or service you reviewed. Sponsored posts is a way to go, you can get an idea from “Sponsor a Post on Make Money Online Nigeria”

6. Paid Services

In addition to products, you should offer paid services (e.g. coaching, training, maintenance, teaching, planning etc) and then use your blog to promote your own services. You are basically using your blog to sell yourself. You’ll need to convince people that you’re worth buying and then be able to back up your claims once they purchase your service. Make sure you investigate all the legal implications and also make sure you’re not claiming to be a professional if you’re not one. If you do, people will expect a professional service from you and if your service isn’t professional, you will lose credibility and people will label you a scammer, am sure you don't want to be termed that.

If you’re truly interested in becoming a money making blogger, you should start by looking through already money making blogs. It may take you time to read everything on our archive, but it will be worth it. You’ll practically become a better money making blogger.

In conclusion, I need you to know that you will need a lot of traffic to your blog before you start making lots of money blogging. You should start now and work your way up the different levels of bloggers in Nigeria and don't forget that there are lots of bloggers out there, so do something exceptional and captivating it sells.

How to track your vehicle on the cheap, using your smartphone?

New tracking method adapted to all budgets.

Lost your car and can’t remember where you parked? It happens to the best of us: wandering aimlessly through parking lots, clicking the panic button on your key chain to get your headlights to illuminate.
You don’t need some spendy radio transponder to keep tabs on your car. Uplinking your wheels to the great eye in the sky without breaking the bank is easier than you think.
Standalone GPS and radio triangulation units can cost hundreds. And that’s not counting the installation and (frequently hefty) activation and monthly fees associated with whatever service you do choose. For most of us, it’s overkill.
The good news is that some of life’s biggest problems seem to be disappearing because of new technology.. If you frequently forget where you parked your car, there is a tiny gadget and app that could be what you’re looking for.

What is it about?

It’s about Trackr, A small and discreet device the size of a coin that is revolutionizing the market..

But… How does it work?

Very easy! It will take less than five minutes to put it to work. You simply have to pair it with your smartphone and download the free application which will allow you to locate it anytime.
Once this is done, you simply have to put it on your key chain, in your wallet or in any object you want to locate always. In this case you just have to hide it in your car.

Now just have to open the application on your mobile and you can see on the map the position of your device. If you get to lose your car, simply select “find device” and you’ll get the coordinates of the new location.

With Trackr you’ll be able to locate your car at any time.

How much is it going to cost me?

You’re probably thinking that this device will be very expensive…. nope. This is the best part, you can acquire one for so little, the price is about 27$. Not bad considering it gives peace of mind.

How to buy it?

That’s easy, you can buy it from the website.

Other functions

Do you often forget your wallet? Forget where you left your keys? Or want to prevent your pet from escaping? With Trackr you can also track your personal belongings, just simply attach it to anything you consider important for you or easy to lose, you link it to your Smartphone (with the Trackr application) and you will find what you lost, it’s that easy!

Detailed instructions on how to use Trackr

Now that you are aware of the potential of this curious device, we will make a brief summary to clear all your doubts:
  • Step 1: Get Trackr Bravo from this website,, you’ll get it delivered to your home in about 1 week.
  • Step 2: Link Trackr Bravo with your Smartphone (iPhone or Android) and hide it in your car.
  • Step 3: Download the app and always have in hand the location of your valuables.
As Simple As That, Kindly Share with friends!

Iphone 7 & Iphone 7 Plus Specifications, Price & Images

So guys, technology giants Apple finally launched the much awaited iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus with all their specifications and price.

At a special event in San Francisco on Wednesday 7th September , Apple unveiled the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus smartphones. The iPhone 7 specifications were not the best kept secrets, because weeks back we had leaked images and specs of the iPhone 7 here. These leaks and rumors were hardly able to tell the whole iPhone 7 story.

New iphone 7 features

The most eye catching features of the iPhone 7 are the camera upgrade, a new home button and the removal of the 3.5mm headphone as anticipated in the leaks

The headphones

One of the strangest decisions was to completely do away with the headphone jack or port, what you get instead is a pair of Lightning EarPods which connect via the charging port, and Apple's wireless AirPods, powered by a W1 chip. The Infared sensors detect when you put the pod in your ear, while motion sensors control the headphones to use Siri and detect your voice. Cool right?

The camera

The camera of the iPhone 7 was also upgraded to take better pictures in low light conditions, a
new 12MP sensor that's 60 per cent faster and 30 per cent more energy efficient.

The iPhone 7 plus version comes with dual rear cameras. This would give increased quality when zooming a photo, this has been a problem for Apple for some time. The iPhone 7 plus has two 12MP cameras, one of which is a wide angle lens and the other a telephoto lens that can zoom 2X in high quality without using any software.
The secondary camera has been upgraded to a 7MP from the 5MP it has been for selfies.

The home button

The home button has been given a vibration-based taptic feedback system so it now vibrates when touched to give users feedback. The feature is already in use on the firm's MacBook laptops. It's also has the antenna bands moved to the edges form the sides as is the norm. This was talked about in the leaks, in an earlier post.

So with the major new features of the iPhone 7 stated we can go to the full specifications of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus.

Amazing !! Nigeria’s First Electric Light Rail Ready For Operation (Photos)

The Calabar electric light rail is finally ready for inauguration. Built by Ponet TFZE, the train with a cruising speed of about 40 kilometres per hour, has 12 cars – 10 passenger and two equipment cars.

The multi-billion Naira Calabar Light rail project, the first in Nigeria, would soon be inaugurated by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The 12-car monorail system, when fully operational, would use an Intamin P8 electric powered passenger shuttle train to convey passengers from Tinapa Resort, across Lake Tinapa to Calabar International Conference Centre (CICC).

The monorail would allow access to Studio Tinapa, Tinapa Shopping Centre and Tinapa waterpark as well as provide a quick alternative access to Summit Hills.

Each car is primed for seven to eight passengers all seated, while the train’s length, width and height are approximately 38,1.95 and 2.2 metres, respectively.

Mr Mba Mba, the station’s Electrical Engineer, said the light rail project was completed in December last year.

“Right now, the Calabar Monorail is ready for use pending inauguration by appropriate authorities.
“We have test-run the system and confirmed its readiness. Gov. Ben Ayade was here with his team to see for himself what is on ground.”

Governor Ben Ayade is doing everything to make sure the train lives up to expectation. God Bless sir.

[MUST READ] How To stop masturbation, 6 Helpful Ways.

The immense pleasure derived from frequent masturbation can be extremely addictive. However, this addiction can become an obsessive activity that interferes with daily living.

Furthermore, it may result in loss of s*x drive, depression, or even impotence. To prevent these potentially severe side effects, Date360ng.com reveals the six most effective ways to end chronic masturbation.

1. Distraction
When you get the urge to masturbate, quickly engage in an alternative activity. Whether you pick up a book or go to the movies with friends, participate in anything that will successfully distract you from your masturbatory desires.

2. Rubber Band
Place a rubber band around your wrist. Every time you get the urge to masturbate, flick the rubber band. This will eventually condition you to associate masturbation with the pain, thereby deterring you from the act. The mere thought of masturbation may even cease to cross your mind.

3. Help From Loved Ones
If you have a romantic partner, be open with them about your condition. This should remove any feelings of guilt or shame associated with chronic masturbation, as you will no longer have to hide a “dirty little secret” from your loved one.

4. Replace That Pleasure With A Different One

Find other pleasurable activities that bring you joy. Find an enjoyable hobby that requires your full attention. For example, if you enjoy art take a painting class.

5. Jogging
Jogging and other forms of exercise are a great way to take masturbation off your mind. Jogging will require your complete attention – from listening to your heartbeat to inhaling each new breath of fresh air. Masturbation will have no place on the forefront of your mind. So the more you engage in exercise, the less time you will have to think about masturbating. Eventually, you may be able to overcome your addiction.

6. Evaluate Your Life
Analyze your life. Determine what makes you happy and what does not. You may find that something stressful in your life is causing this chronic masturbation. Elucidating the underlying stress or will enable you to resolve it, ultimately allowing you to overcome the addiction.

Kindly share, you might not know who you're helping.

Check Out List Of Top 10 Male Artists In Nigeria (So Far This Year 2016).

The List is created Based on Writers Opinion.

Wizkid

1) WIZKID-: Annoyingly wiz happens to be my number 1. Since abandoning the Nigerian shores to seek international recognition, he has been involved with top music act the likes of Rkelly, Akon, Chris Brown, Rihanna, Tinie tempah, Wale, Tyga and also featured on Drake VIEWS album. Drake’s ‘One Dance’ became the Wizkid-featured song that trended globally and held the lead position on the music charts for several months long. This feat became quite the game changer for the STARBOY.
He featured not one but three international music weights Chris Brown, Trey Songz and french Montana on his latest release ‘Shabba’. I don’t even need to say much cos it’s obvious at this juncture why he’s number one. “Highstar AR u happy”

WHAT MAKES LINDA IKEJI A SUCCESSFUL BLOGGER

Linda Ikeji as we all know is a successful blogger and is also an house hold name when it comes to blogging. Ask an average blogger why he/she went into blogging, they can hardly give you a concrete reason why they are into it. Most people (bloggers) just want to blog because that's like the order of the day or probably a friend told them to; which at the end they will just become tired and opt out of blogging.
To become a successful blogger just like sister Linda, there are some things that one ought to know about her which contributed greatly to her (blogging) Success.

1) HER EARLY BEGINNING :

I will call this a perfect timing. She started at the early hours of blogging ( when blogging wasn't that known), she came into blogging 2006, this was the period when entertainment was just advancing to another level in Nigeria. At this period, there were no serious online entertainment blogs or competition, about a few such as BELLANAIJA and others. Starting her blog at that point in time meant she was in the market at the right time. Just as the entertainment industry began to grow, it was natural that Linda and other early bloggers had to grow along with the rising trend of the industry. This gave 'sister Linda' an edge over other new bloggers.

2) CONSISTENCY :

This is a word that entails something being done continuously over a period of time. Despite the fact that Linda Ikeji came into blogging since 2006, she has never for once relented or stopped blogging even during the most difficult times in her life. When it comes to blogging, it is one thing to start a blog and it's another thing to keep updating it both day(s) and night(s) all year long, but she was able to do just both with the right motivation and equipment. As a young blogger, I have learnt alot from her and putting what she is doing into practise which's really helping.

3) THE RIGHT MOTIVATION :

Just like I earlier said in the intro of this article, some bloggers are just into blogging business 'cause someone ( friends, family, enemies ) must have told them to go into it or some just went into it because of the sole reason of making quick money.
MY OPINION: YOU ARE LIKELY TO GIVE UP BEFORE YOU GET THERE...
Something different has to be the motivation for your blogging. In Sister Linda's case, she was motivated by the desire to establish a community, i.e. having a platform where people could read something interesting and make their comments known to the world. That was her sole motivation, which catapulted her to become the success story we are identifying with today. I want to be so sure that she had no idea to how successful she will be 10 years after.

4) FINDING THE RIGHT NICHE :

This is somehow related to the 3rd point; though specific. Finding the right niche as a blogger will really help you last long as a blogger. As for Linda, she found her niche in entertainment news, "amebo" and its relatives. I could remember then when she started posting cool stories about celebrities which where recent and up-to-date thereby making people updated about what's going on in the entertainment sector. This in turn made people to consistently wanting to know what's on in that sector. When you find the right niche for your blog, you hardly get discouraged, because this is something you love doing and you do with ease. There are several niche such as ; MUSIC, ENTERTAINMENT, FASHION, SPORT, JOB, ETC. So just find what interest you the most and venture into doing it.
Examples of these blogs are Naijaloaded.com (music), Lindaikejisblog.com (Entertainment), Nairaland.com (Various Forum), inout9ja.blogspot.com (Music, how To's), Jobberman.com (Jobs), to mention but a few. These sites got their right niche which makes them successful.

5) GETTING THE RIGHT SOURCE :

This is the part that basically keeps Linda Ikeji's blog ahead when it comes to blogging. She has trusted sources that are well updated in terms of entertainment news in and out of Nigeria. That is why most readers love her blog alot; she's current. When fresh entertainment gist is out, trust Linda's blog to be part of the top three sites to get the news known to the world, this tells alot about her source of information. Not like most of our newbies blogger that just copy and paste from any how source. Get a well trusted source and voilĂ  ! you are good to go.

5 THINGS YOU NEED BEFORE YOU START A BLOG/SITE

1) COMPUTER(DESKTOP OR LAPTOP) :

Having a personal system either laptop or desktop is really advisable to get. There are cheap and affordable laptops you can get there in the market. It's not cool enough to start a blog without your own computer. Am not saying you can't start a blog without having a system, but its more convenient and secure. Imagine using your friend's system to blog, you will have to log him out of his mail just to log in yours, of which in the long run he might get tired of you always using his system or logging him off. What if he doesn't remember his password, will he always love to reset it? Come to think of it, logging into your blog via someone else's system will pose a security threat to your blog the day you forget to log out, you have exposed your blog's back end, especially if it falls on the hand of someone that doesn't have an idea of XML or HTML.

2) REAL CONTENTS/ARTICLE :

Just before you start a blog, it's advisable you have your own real contents or article, an article that has never been published by any one but you alone. This helps your blog alot especially for those of you that will love to apply for google Adsence. Contents and real article is one of the fundamentals google will look into before approving your Adsence account ( Content is key). You can just do some guess writing i.e. just guess a unique topic and write something great about it and post, it gives your new blog an edge over the " ctrl C / crtl V " blog team. It also makes your viewers or visitors have the impression that your blog is a legit site.

3) GOOD AND AFFORDABLE DATA PLAN :

With the rate at which network providers are competing against themselves, this has made the price of data plans low and affordable, compared to those days when data plans were extremely high and almost impossible to purchase especially for those still collecting allowance from dad and mum. Just get a good network provider that gives cheap data such as MTN ( #1000 for 1.5 Gig... etc), GlO( #1000 for 2 Gig... etc), AIRTEL( Also have their own unique data plans ) and the rest. This will reduce the rate of seldom post to blog and will keep you frequently online to move with the world.

4) MODEM OR WI_FI ENABLED PHONE :

Just like you have your personal laptop , you must have a modem or a phone that is hotspot ( Wi-Fi ) enabled. This will serve as your  router ( a device that forwards data packets between computer networks ). This is what connects you to the internet or just subscribe on your sim and switch on your hotspot to connect to your system.

NOTE : When your hotspot is enabled, don't forget to pass-word it, cause there are some people that are "faster than the fastest".

5) THE RIGHT NICHE :

What makes Linda Ikeji a successful blogger? Knowing the right niche before starting a blog/site is essential, if you really want your blog to become successful. There are various niche from Jobs, Entertainment, Careers, How To's, Tutorials on various things and lots more. You have to know what suits you to blog about so as for you not to get tired of blogging. Inexperienced bloggers have the habit of leaving their newly created blog due to low views or just tired of typing, but if you are in the right niche, hardly will you get tired, 'cause you are doing it as fun. When  sister Linda bought her house worth over 500million naira, google.com recorded millions of blog accounts opened and just after that they were all inactive. Those people just opened the blog because they heard Linda bought the house as a blogger. #FollowFOLLOWnoDEYpay#

THIS IS HOW TO ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR WEAKNESSES IN A JOB INTERVIEW

Two years ago, a young woman named Michele Hansen spotted a job opening that piqued her interest. She wasn’t qualified—the posting was for a product manager at an investment company, and she had no experience in financial services.

In that situation, the voice in your head screams for self-promotion. If you’re applying for a job, you know you need to bend over backward to hide you shortcomings. As an interviewer, when I ask candidates to name their biggest weaknesses, they usually respond with strengths in disguise. I work too hard. I’m too much of a perfectionist. I only won a silver medal in the Olympics.

But Michele Hansen did the exact opposite. She took a page out of George Costanza’s playbook on Seinfeld: “My name is George. I'm unemployed and I live with my parents.” Instead of trying to hide her limitations, she led with them:

“I'm probably not the candidate you've been envisioning,” her cover letter began. “I don't have a decade of experience as a Product Manager nor am I a Certified Financial Planner.”

Hansen got the job. And she isn’t alone. In one study, interviewers gave the highest ratings to business school applicants who were more concerned with being seen accurately than positively. In another study, Harvard researchers asked undergraduates to answer a job interview question about their weaknesses. Only 23 percent gave actual negative qualities: I procrastinate. I overreact to situations. The other 77 percent hid their weaknesses inside a humblebrag: I’m too nice. I’m too demanding when it comes to fairness. When collaborators reviewed the answers, they were 30 percent more interested in hiring the candidates who acknowledged a legitimate weakness.

Although applicants believe self-promotion is the ticket to landing a coveted job, the evidence shows otherwise. Undergraduates who played up their skills and accomplishments were not significantly more likely to get job offers. Executives who tried to impress board members with their qualifications did not succeed in landing more board seats. And employees who went out of their way to highlight their successes had substantially lower salaries and promotion rates. Compared to flattery and favors, researchers James Westphal and Ithai Stern explain, “self-promotion is less consistently effective… it is less subtle and more transparent.”

In a pair of experiments, Alison Fragale and I found that self-promotion only paid off when the audience was distracted enough to remember the information but forget the source. Otherwise, they saw right through it: “If you were that great, you wouldn’t need to boast about your greatness.”

Of course, you can’t get a job if you only focus on your inadequacies. After confessing her lack of relevant experience, Michele Hansen devoted the rest of her cover letter to explaining why she had the motivation and skills to succeed anyway. “I don't wait for people to tell me what to do and go seek for myself what needs to be done,” she wrote. “I'm entrepreneurial, I get things done… I love breaking new ground and starting with a blank slate.”

There’s evidence for a backlash against female self-promoters. Trumpeting accomplishments violates gender stereotypes of women as communal rather than assertive and ambitious. (This helps explain Nate Silver’s finding that Hillary Clinton’s approval ratings go up every time she holds an office and down when she’s vying for one.) Michele Hansen overcame that backlash by establishing her deficiencies up front with candor and humility. As a result, her comments about her strengths came across as more credible.

By admitting your inadequacies, you show that you’re self-aware enough to know your areas for improvement—and secure enough to be open about them. That you’re interested in being hired for what you actually bring to the table, not what you pretend to bring.

In 1987, the Chicago Sun-Times had to replace their beloved advice columnist, Ann Landers. A young journalist, Jeff Zaslow, was writing an article about the search and decided to throw his hat in the ring. “How could you have the audacity to give advice?” an interviewer scoffed. “I may only be 28,” Zaslow replied, “but I have the wisdom of a 29-year old.”

They hired him.

My Message To The Next Generation Of Africans by Bill Gates

I was 9 years old when Nelson Mandela was sent to prison on Robben Island. As a boy, I learned about him in school, and I remember seeing reports about the anti-Apartheid movement on the evening news. Decades later, I got to meet him and work with him. In person he was even more inspiring than I had imagined. His humility and courage left an impression that I will never forget.

So it was a special honor to be invited to give the Nelson Mandela Lecture in Pretoria, South Africa. I eagerly accepted the invitation and quickly began working on my remarks.

I decided to share my optimism about Africa’s future—to explain why I think the continent has the potential to change faster in the next generation than any continent ever has.

It’s because Africa is the world’s youngest continent, and youth can go hand in hand with a special dynamism. I was 20 years old when Paul Allen and I started Microsoft. The entrepreneurs driving startup booms in Johannesburg, Lagos, and Nairobi are just as young, and the thousands of businesses they’re creating are already changing lives across the continent. The potential will only grow as the digital revolution brings more advances in artificial intelligence and robotics.

But positive change across Africa won’t happen automatically. The real returns will come only if Africans can unleash this talent for innovation in all of the continent’s growing population. That depends on whether all of its young people are given the opportunity to thrive.

It is still an open question, and it is the crux of my speech, which I gave today at the University of Pretoria. It was an honor to give this lecture, and I’m grateful to the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the university for inviting me.

The first time I spoke with Nelson Mandela was in 1994, when he called to ask me to help fund South Africa’s first multi-racial election. It’s not every day that Nelson Mandela calls, so I remember it well. I was running Microsoft at the time and thinking about software most of my waking hours. But I admired Nelson Mandela, I knew the election was historic, and I did what I could to help.

I had been to Africa for the first time just the year before, when my wife, Melinda, and I travelled in East Africa on vacation. Obviously, we knew parts of Africa were very poor, but being on the continent turned what had been an abstraction into an injustice we could not ignore.

Faced with such glaring inequity, we started thinking about how we could use our resources to make a difference. Within a few years, we established our foundation. It was when I started coming to Africa regularly for the foundation that I came to know Nelson Mandela personally. He was both an advisor and an inspiration.

One topic that Nelson Mandela came back to over and over again in his lifetime was the power of youth. I agree with Mandela about young people, and that is one reason I’m optimistic about the future of Africa. Demographically, Africa is the world’s youngest continent, and its youth can be the source of a special dynamism.

Economists talk about the demographic dividend and the potential for Africa’s burgeoning youth population to accelerate economic growth. But for me, the most important thing about young people is the way their minds work. Young people are better than old people at driving innovation, because they are not locked in by the limits of the past. I was 19 when I founded Microsoft. Steve Jobs was 21 when he started Apple. Mark Zuckerberg was 19 when he created Facebook.

So I’m inspired by the young African entrepreneurs driving startup booms in the Silicon Savannahs from Johannesburg and Cape Town to Lagos and Nairobi.

The real returns, though, will come if we can multiply this talent for innovation by the whole of Africa’s growing youth population. To make that a reality, all of Africa’s young people must have the opportunity to thrive.

If we invest in the right things—if we make sure the basic needs of Africa’s young people are taken care of—then they can change the future and life on this continent will improve faster than it ever has.

In my view, there are four things that will determine Africa’s future: health and nutrition, education, economic opportunity, and good governance.

When people aren’t healthy, they can’t turn their attention to things like education, working and raising a family. Conversely, when health improves, life improves by every measure.

I’m especially concerned about HIV. Africa’s youngest generation are entering the age when they are most at risk of HIV. We need to get more out of the HIV prevention methods we have now –while developing better solutions like an effective vaccine and easier-to-use medicines that people are more likely to use consistently.

Nutrition is another critical area of focus for Africa. Malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies rob millions of the continent’s children of their physical and cognitive potential. Fortunately, there are cost-effective solutions like making sure mothers breastfeed their infants, enriching cooking oil, sugar, and flour with important vitamins and minerals, and breeding staple crops to maximize their nutritional content. We need to make sure the people most at risk know about and have access to these solutions.

Second, we need new thinking and new tools to make sure a high-quality education is available to every child. Educational technology using mobile phones has the potential to help students build foundational skills while giving teachers better feedback and support at the touch of a button. Governments also need to invest in high-quality public universities for the largest number of qualified students to launch the next generation of scientists, entrepreneurs, educators, and government leaders.

Third, we need to create economic opportunities to channel the energy and ideas of Africa’s youth. Through the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Program, countries have a framework for transforming agriculture from a struggle for survival into a thriving business opportunity. But the investment needs to follow, so that young Africans have the means to create the thriving agriculture they envision.

Africa also needs more electrical power to increase productivity. In East Africa especially, governments should invest in hydro and geothermal sources of energy, which are both reliable and renewable, as soon as possible. The immediate priority is for governments to get tougher about managing their electrical grids so they’re producing as much power as possible.

Fourth, countries can benefit from enhancing fiscal governance. Advances in digital technology is one way that governments can deliver services more efficiently.

It’s clear to everyone how big and complicated the challenges are. But Africa has proven its resilience and ingenuity time and again, and there are millions of people, especially young people, who are eager to get to work.

The future depends on the people of Africa working together to lay a foundation so that Africa’s young people have the opportunities they deserve. This is the future that Nelson Mandela dreamed of and it’s the future that the youth of Africa deserve.
